1980. Rolex Explorer II Ref. 1655 The collectors collectible watch! Often called the 'Steve McQueen' Explorer II model became
incredibly popular over the last 10 years and with limited availability the prices for original examples
rocketed as collectors took them to their hearts, and their watchboxes! What is great about this watch, apart from it's obvious desirability, is that it is 100% original.

August Watch of the Month
They say that everything comes to those who wait, and we have been waiting 8 years to get our hands on this watch! As far as we know there are actually only 3 Red Submariners in Sydney that are still with their original owners, and whilst it may seem strange that we can relate that fact, we have known the owners of these watches for many years. That contact has allowed us to be able offer you a watch today that is on the market for the first time in almost 40 years!
Vintage watches that come with history are special and those that come from the original owner hold extra significance for collectors, with the most exciting being watches direct from the original owner. This 'Red' Submariner was originally bought in Japan in 1973 and over years traveled the world with its owner, including a period of time where it was assumed lost by the owner, but was rediscovered a number of years later inside the pocket of his suitcase! Another interesting chapter in this watch's story occurred in 2006 when it was taken to the Rolex Service Center who provided him with a quote for a service which included new a case, case-back, clasp and new hands! Luckily the owner didn't accept that quote and had an independent watchmaker service the watch instead. Had he allowed Rolex to replace those parts, the original model and serial numbers would have been lost, removing much of its charm and reducing the value of the watch. The only good thing to come from that brush with certain oblivion, is that we have the quote paperwork from Rolex.
The watch is in nice used condition and we have not been tempted to remove any of its history. This is the perfect Rolex Submariner for those looking for a rarer red Sub with history.
One Owner Red Sub, first time on the market.
