Rolex GMT Master Ref. 16700 watch. Also known as GMT Master-I. Serial Number: T389106. Case diameter: 40mm. Sold new in December 1997 by Mappin and Webb Ltd, London. Complete set with box and papers. The 16700 transitional model was only offered with the Pepsi bezel insert to distinguish it from the GMT-II. While many 16700 models had the bezel insert later changed to black or black/red on customer request, this particular watch comes with its ORIGINAL blue and red bezel.
The GMT Master 16700 retains the non-quick set GMT hand and was less expensive than the more advanced, newer 16710.
Despite this, the 16700 was produced in a smaller quantity which makes it currently more attractive to Rolex collectors.
Overall condition: very fine. GMT Master Ref. 16700 is a transitional model produced from 1988-1998. The first model of the GMT Master fitted with Sapphire crystal and the new movement caliber 3175.
